Weather Concerns

In reviewing the latest radar model, it appears the snow will reach us between 4:45 – 5 pm. Understanding there is no certainty in predicting the weather, we try to make the best decisions possible based off of the information provided by the National Weather Service.

With that said, LOC is operating HOWEVER we are CLOSING at 5:00 PM. This will hopefully allow families and staff to reach their homes ahead of expected hazardous road conditions. The after school bus is scheduled to operate as normal departing at 5:00 pm.

If the weather changes we will keep you updated as needed.

Thank you,
Mrs. Denniston

Enrollment 2019-2020

Enrollment for 2019-2020 is officially underway through January 31st. Attached you will find the Enrollment Form which is to be completed and returned NO LATER THAN January 31st. ALL enrollments received AFTER 1/31/19 will be considered as new students therefore will be placed in the lottery system.

As a reminder, LOC along with all other BASP’s, operate under the same guidelines and schedule for enrolling students into our programs. With the new ICCSD boundary changes affecting most schools, there will be a high potential of a wait list therefore it is imperative you return the enrollment form no later than 1/31/19.

Students who are enrolled through the 21st Century program will qualify to enroll within the LOC program even though the tutoring program will not be offered through LOC as the grant ends effective May 2019. If you are currently enrolled through the 21st Century program AND receive a scholarship for tuition AND you want your child to continue with LOC for next year, you must complete the enrollment form and return NO LATER THAN January 31st. If you are needing financial assistance to cover the cost of tuition, you should contact Iowa Department of Human Services for Childcare Assistance. This process should be started immediately in order to determine your eligibility of assistance. Please let me know if you need assistance in contacting DHS as I am happy to help.

Below you will find additional information as it relates to enrollment dates and such.

BASP Enrollment Timeline for the 2019–20 School Year

BASP Enrollment Priorities

  1. Current enrollees (and their incoming kindergarten siblings)
  2. Current enrollees who have been zoned to a new attendance center for the 2019–20 school year (and their incoming kindergarten siblings)
  3. New families

January 1 – January 31, 2019 All families currently enrolled in a BASP program will re-enroll for the 2019–20 school year, including younger siblings of current enrollees. Identified priorities:

  1. Current enrollees (and their incoming kindergarten siblings)
  2. Current enrollees who have been zoned to a new attendance center for the 2019–20 school year (and their incoming kindergarten siblings)

February 1, 2019 Families currently enrolled in a BASP, who have completed a re-enrollment application at their current or new attendance center, will be notified if the BASP will be able to serve them. A lottery draw will occur if the number of currently enrolled families, coming from the previous attendance center, exceeds the number of spots available. The remaining families will move to a waiting list and receive top priority for future enrollments.

February 15 – March 31, 2019 Programs will accept enrollment applications for new families. If the program cannot accommodate all of the new applicants, a lottery list of new families will be generated from this pool of applicants.

April 1, 2019 If spots still remain, a lottery draw, in front of office personnel, will occur. All others will move to a waiting list (which remains in place for the 2019–20 school year).
